Was sent to the 11th Cav around Sept '67 from the 3rd/5th Cav. Left in Jan '68. Does anyone remember Gerald Blackmun? he was with me at the 3/5 and went to the 11th about the same time. Looking for any information.

On Nov.21,1966 Lt Neil Keltner lead a convoy on highway 1 from Long Bien to the new Blackhorse base camp under construction near highway 2 in Xuan Loc. As the convoy moved west near the village of AP Hung Nghia the lead ACAV C-22 reported it was taking small arms fire. With in minutes the Viet Cong 274th regiment launched a full scale ambush, destroying C-18 & C-13 and some 2 1/2 ton trucks. As the troopers fought back taking cover out of the burning vehicles, Lt Keltner & the crews of C-23 & C-16 returned to help & rescue the other troopers still in the kill zone. With help from George Kinback & other air support, they aggressively fought back causing the Viet Cong to brake contact & flee.

This experience has been kept alive by my wifes father Bill Waller(C-troop 66-67) & others who were there for over 40 years. With Bill passing in 2007, it has been our turn to teach our children they way they taught us. That day took the lives of Russell L Halley, Harry L Powers, Jimmy L Rhodes & Ray E Johnson but not their memory, not their story. As we all sit down & give thanks this week, let's be thankful for all the 11th ACR troopers who returned to base camp with their fallen on Thanksgiving day 1966.

And if you haven't yet sent any please send them NOW. Our plans are to submit everything to the publisher by the beginning of May so we can have it in time for the St. Louis reunion.

I am trying to get information on my time in Viet Nam. I am trying to get va medial help but I have blocked out almost everything while I was there. I would like camp maps, campains, ambush dates from 4-167 thru 5-3168. I know I was on a lot of ambush patrols but cann't remeber anything about them. I travelled with 1st., 2nd., and 3rd. squadron. The VA wants dates and places and my mind has block them all out.

I do still need a listing from each of you as to your address, email and etc. So please e-mail it to me at puppytoes@charter.net .

Attended the 8/28 Restore Honor rally in DC. Unbelievable display of patriotism and camaraderie by all 11ACR Troopers present in DC.
Spent some time with 11ACR along the border in Germany in 80's. Class act then, class act now.
God Bless all who "Rode with the Black Horse".
