Comments by Barry Diwell diwellb@hotmail.com 30 April 2009 Hi Doc
I stumbled across your site and am hoping that you can help me, a fellow veteran of the Vietnam war.
As you may be aware, 11ACR often operated jointly with the 1st Armoured Regiment (1AR) of the Australian Task Force.
A history of the 1AR's service in Vietnam is being written and the author is keen to establish some information.
On the 14th of December 1968, in Bien Hoa Province, during one of these joint operations, one of our Centurion tanks detonated a large mine mortally wounding the driver. An African American medic from K Tp 3 Sqn 11 ACR ran several hundred yards across possibly mine laden ground to render assistance to the driver.
If possible, the author would like to mention this medic by name in the book as a way of thanking him.
I understand that you weren't directly associated with K Tp but I am hopeful that you can help in this matter.
I have also posted this request on Bob Hersey's K Troop site.
Cheers and regards
Barry J Diwell ex B and C Sqns 1st Armoured Regiment Royal Australian Armoured Corps

Comments by HAROLD MICHAEL JENSEN michael.jensen2@va.gov 26 Feb 2009 My name is Mike Jensen, I was assigned to the 7th Surgical Hospital at Long Gau, Xuan Loc at the 11thACR Blackhorse Base Camp. January 1969 -April 1969, VN. I was the NCOIC of the intake, triage and patient admin specialist. I did some medical training at Ft Sam, Tx but ended up in Viet Nam. I retired from the Army in 2000 with Military Intelligence MOS's. Had a great career. I had some heart-warming experiences while at the 7th Surg Hopsital but it seems that no one ever mentions it. In April, the Army turned the facility (which was built in 1965) over to the Aussies. As a M.A.S.H. unit we were very busy from 1966 until closing in April 1969. Many lives were saved because of the Doctors and great American Nurses there. It was rewarding for me personally to have been there to serve my brothers and sisters. ALLONS My e-mail address is michael.jensen2@va.gov. Hope to hear from anyone who might have had some interactions with the 7th Surg Hosp 1968-69. Regards, HMJ.
I was one of the originals to go to Nam with the cav. I was with the 37th med co. My name is leonard williams. please write to me if anyone knows of me.

Shontz william.t.shontz@us.army.mil 29 Mar 2007 Gentlemen, I am currently the medical platoon leader for HHT 2nd Squadron, 11th ACR. A year ago I inherited a platoon that was abused and jaded. I have purged most of the cancer and instilled a new sense of pride and meaning to the platoon. All that remains is the old call sign they served under. It is the final step to Creating a new image and feeling. I was hoping to reach back to the roots of the Medic in the 11th ACR and bring back the heritage with a call sign that was used during One of the most definitive times in the units history. Sir, do you recall the call signs Used by the medics during Vietnam? I would greatly appreciate any info you can give me. ALLONS!
